CoreAchieve allows to manage global roles and permissions applicable to all learning objects (courses, learning paths, materials, quizzes/surveys) and permissions at the object level (user or user group can be added with some permission(s) to a learning object).

CoreAchieve allows to select view of the hope page of the following set:
  • Learner’s home page
  • Instructor's home page
  • Attendee manager's home page
  • Author's home page
  • Administrator's home page
Home page view can be set up to a user group. If a user is included in many user groups then the user can select a home page view of any set to at least one of his/her user groups.

Manage User Groups and Global Permissions
Log in to the system as an administrator (or any user with the permission to create user groups).
  • Open Administration/User Groups.
  • View existing user groups.
User groups can be embedded. A child user group inherits permissions from the parent user group. Inherited permissions are disabled for selection in the list of permissions of a child user group. List of permissions of a child user group can be extended with additional permissions. Click New to create a new user group.

  • Enter title, select parent user group (if needed), and set any other data. Click Save.
  • User group profile includes tabs Edit and Permissions. On the Edit tab, select business role. Selected role defines home page view (content) for users of the group.
  • Open the Permissions tab to set global permissions for the user group.
Manage learning object permissions
In addition to global permissions users and user groups can be added to a learning object (course, learning path, material, quiz/survey) with some permissions.

1. Course access management

  • Course attendee management: usually attendee managers with a restricted set of assigned courses are added to the permission group.
  • Start the course: the permission is added to learners of the course. The permission is automatically added after enrolment of a learner.
2. Learning path access management

Set up permissions for main user roles
CoreAchieve provides five possible views of a home page for five main business roles of a learning process. Usually administrators adds user groups in the system for all main business roles. Let’s review possible configuration of permissions for these main roles/groups. Learner: list of permissions of the user group can be empty or include some common permissions. E.g., to allow users of the group to view news and participate in any communication/discussions before enrolment to a course:
  • Access to discussions
  • Comment any communication
  • View comments on any communications
Instructor: main responsibility of the user group is communication with learners of his/her courses, estimation of quizzes passed by learners.
  • Global Instructors (i.e., instructors with access to all courses/learning path/materials): the following permissions must be added to such user groups:
    • View any learning object
    • Score any assessment
    • If users of the group must be able to enrol new learners to courses then Attendee management for any learning object permission must be added as well
  • Instructor with a restricted set of assigned courses: add global permission Score assessments for such user group. In addition include the user in the list of responsible teachers of the course (Course->Edit->About) and to the object-level permission group View the course. Include the user in the object-level permission group Course Attendee management if the user must be able to enrol new learners.
Attendee manager:
  • Global Attendee managers (i.e., managers with access to all courses): the following permissions must be added to such user groups:
    • View any learning object
    • Attendee management for any learning object.
  • Attendee manager with a restricted set of assigned courses: no need to add any global permissions. Include the user to the object-level permission group Course Attendee management.
Author:
  • Global Author (i.e., authors with access to all courses): the following permissions must be added to such user groups:
    • View any learning object
    • Edit any learning object
  • Author with a restricted set of assigned learning objects: no need to add any global permissions. Include the user to the object-level permission group Edit the course (edit/remove permissions for another types of learning objects).
Administrator: add any global permissions to user groups of the type.
